What Can I Borrow from Babson Library?
Patrons may borrow:
- Books from the Main Circulating Collection (mainly housed on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the library)
- Videos and DVDs
- Materials placed on reserve for course reading by professors
Patrons may use these items in the library:
- Books from the Reference Collection (housed on the 1st floor of the library)
- Current and bound issues of periodicals, including journals, magazines, and newspapers
- Microfilm and microfiche
- Items from the College Archives
- Materials placed on reserve for course reading by professors designated "Library Use Only"
How do I get an ID card/ID number?
If you are a student at the Springfield Campus:
Contact the Photo ID Manager at (413) 748-3074.
If you are a student at a Regional Campus:
Contact your campus and ask how to get your ID card.
If you are a Springfield College student who is not registered for a class this semester but are finishing coursework, incompletes, etc.:
Contact the Registrar's Office about registering for continuous registration status.
If you are a Cambridge College student:
Contact Cambridge College to obtain an ID.
If you are an SC Alumnus or hold a valid ID card from one of the Cooperating Libraries of Greater Springfield:
Come to the Information Desk. Note: Alumni/Guests may only check out material physically located at the library.
Equipment Lending (Faculty and Staff)
Faculty and Staff may borrow several different types of electronic equipment.
We have:
- 2 projectors
- 2 laptops
- 2 projector/laptop combos
- 3 conference phones
Important Notes About Equipment:
- These items are available on a first come, first served basis.
- You may request an extended due date when you check out.
- Save your files online or on a flashdrive, as the laptops are cleared of new files when they are shut down,
- Contact the Educational Technologist/Faculty Resource Center (x 3430) for technical support.
- This service is available to faculty and staff at the Springfield campus only.
Reserving Videos for Class (Faculty)
Extended Borrowing
Faculty may request an extended borrowing period when they check a video out. Any extension is at the discretion of Library staff.
Advance Booking
Faculty may request an advance booking on any video to reserve it for a particular class time.
Faculty must submit their request 10 days before the video is needed.
- Springfield Campus Faculty : Contact Diane Walsh at dwalsh@spfldcol.edu. Videos will be held at the Library's Information Desk.
- Regional Campus Faculty : Contact Lynn Martin at lmartin@spfldcol.edu. Videos will be shipped to your campus before the requested date.
Notes on Advance Booking:
- First Come/First Served: Multiple faculty members wishing to borrow the same video will have their requests processed in the order in which their requests have been received by the Public Services staff.
- Privacy: Confidentiality is maintained, even if the faculty members are from the same department or the student is in the faculty member's class. Public Services staff shall act as intermediary between the borrower and the requester.
- Recalls: The recall of a video will be initiated only after the current borrower has completed their full 7-day borrowing period, or if the video is overdue. Public Services staff shall act as intermediary between the borrower and the requester in negotiating the return of the requested item.
